Community commitment in action.
At Torrent, we have a tradition of reaching out to our community through projects, charitable contributions, and student education. These outreach efforts are designed to foster environmental sustainability and improve quality of life.
Community Projects
We do more than serve clients. We also serve communities through special projects. These efforts have included free soil testing for Aspire Charter School’s new playground, free environmental testing for a community playground and park project spearheaded by Gateway Community Church, contribution of analytical services to a Habitat for Humanity housing project, and contamination assessment for the Guadalupe River. Together, these projects have helped give children places to play, families homes in which to live, and communities safe recreational areas for hiking, biking, and picnicking.
Charitable Contributions
Torrent employees are active in our communities and support a variety of important causes. We participated in a holiday food drive for Second Harvest, a food bank serving families in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. We have also sponsored yearly Walkathons for the past ten years. In fact, with over 10,000 Walkathon participants to date, Torrent has raised more than $5000, providing much-needed funds for these worthwhile organizations:
• American Cancer Society
• Milpitas Unified School District
• Children’s Hospital of Oakland
• American Heart Association
• Milpitas Police Department
• BAPS Charities (International Non Profit Organization whose mission is to provide disaster relief at the global level)
Education Outreach
We also believe in investing in our future by supporting science education. Our education outreach has included yearly facility tours for students of Tokyo College since 2014, internships for young scientists for the past decade, and consultations and testing for science fair projects for Bay Area schools. By championing education, we help students see science in action, cultivate a foundation for environmental responsibility, expand students’ understanding of biology and life sciences, and help create pathways to careers in the sciences.
