Investment in American water infrastructure

Earlier this year, Vice President Kamala Harris announced $5.8 billion in funding for clean drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in the United States. This is a significant investment towards cleaning up the country’s water infrastructure, which is in dire need of an upgrade. This investment brings the total amount of clean water funding to $22 billion, according to the official announcement. The additional funds will help overhaul water treatment plants, distribution networks and wastewater management facilities nationwide.

Water, especially, drinking water should be the top priority for any nation. Some Americans don’t have access to running water, while millions of others are consuming contaminated water. Outdated pipes in aging water distribution networks have been reported by the media and water activists as increasingly carrying dangerous levels of lead, raising severe public health threats.

At the water treatment level, this investment will help implement advanced technologies to improve the water quality. The ongoing initiatives that were launched in the past few years, the focus on removing PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” from water, and replacing lead pipes are all important steps towards clean water infrastructure. As a developed and advanced industrial economy, maintaining water resources through pollution prevention, pollution control, pollution detection and remediation is important.

We applaud the administration’s efforts towards making water clean and accessible to all communities.
