Trust Torrent for Your Environmental Testing
We’re the premiere environmental testing laboratory for Northern California, Southern California and the Bay Area.
A full-service, one-stop laboratory.
Torrent is a California State Certified full-service environmental testing lab and research laboratory. Torrent offers significant advantages beyond the ‘cookbook chemistry’ of typical labs. We provide custom research tailored to your specific scenario, whether you require monitoring, investigation, remediation, redevelopment, or a broad range of services. Our lab offers drinking water testing, soil testing, microbiology testing, stormwater testing, organic compound testing and more.
The highest certifications and most advanced capabilities.
Torrent offers advanced sampling, testing and reporting methodology for air, water and soil analysis. Our chemists perform all Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) analysis with next-generation Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry systems. Our lab boasts the most highly-automated extraction capabilities in laboratory analysis for Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds in Northern California.
Torrent Laboratory’s services are backed by a breadth and depth of certification, including California’s Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (CA ELAP), The Department of Defense Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (DoD ELAP) and National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Certification (NELAC). We offer testing services in all three matrices— Air, Water, and Soil—in all three disciplines of testing: Inorganic, Volatile and Semi-Organics, and Microbiology.
Dioxin and Furan Testing
Dioxins and dioxin-like substances are an extremely toxic family of chemicals created by combustion processes, such as burning wood for a campfire. They are found everywhere in the environment naturally, but they are also formed as a byproduct of industrial processes.
Some specific dioxins, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are only known to be formed by man-made activity.
Dioxins and Furans are considered persistent pollutants. 2,3,7,8 TCDD is one of the most toxic substances on the planet. Dioxins and furans are not easy to remediate and can persist in the environment for a substantial length of time. As a result, there is a heightened focus on these substances for environmental site assessment and clean up. Dioxans and furans are also increasingly being included in the evaluation for real estate development and purchases.
Marine sediments and seafood products exposed to dioxin and furan streams can contain very high concentrations of PCDD/PCDF. Consequently, we’re seeing a significant increase in required monitoring of marine environments and seafood.
Torrent Lab offers full list dioxin and furan testing with the fastest turnaround time in North America.
Soil Vapor Testing
Torrent offers two types of soil vapor testing: Low-Level and Regular Reporting.
The Regular TO-15 test method has reporting limits that are generally around 0.5 ppbv. This level is adequate for monitoring soil vapor in most cases.
If your testing results must compare against Residential or Commercial environmental screening levels (ESLs), you may be required to test soil vapor with a more sensitive method that can report the data at 0.005 ppbv level. Generally, we meet these low-level reporting limits by performing the test using the TO-15 SIM technique.
Air analysis is rapidly evolving, spurred on by increasing environmental awareness and accountability for meeting air quality standards. Torrent Laboratory has made a significant commitment to air testing and analysis by investing in new methods, technologies and advanced procedures. We offer outdoor air quality testing and ambient air testing .
Torrent supplies data for a range of air methods including NIOSH, OSHA, ASTM, and EPA Air Compendium Methods (TO, CO, IO).
Torrent Laboratory’s soil vapor and ambient air testing services are certified by DoD ELAP. Clients have a greater level of confidence in our data, knowing it must meet the high level of scrutiny required by ISO 17025:2017 DoD ELAP
Low Level PAHs in Soil and Water
Torrent offers two types of testing for PAH (Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons) in soil and water: 8270 and 8270 SIM.
The 8270 test method has reporting limits that are generally around 0.5 ppbv. This level is adequate for monitoring soil and water in most cases.
If your testing results must compare against Residential or Commercial environmental screening levels (ESLs), you may be required to test soil and water with a more sensitive method that can report the data at 0.005 ppbv level. Generally, we meet these low-level reporting limits by performing the test using the 8270 SIM technique.
Pesticides are known to have a range of adverse health effects. Currently, Torrent offers testing for organochlorine pesticides and herbicides. Torrent plans to offer testing for organophosphorus pesticides by the 3rd quarter of 2019.
Metal Detection in Soil and Water
Torrent offers testing to detect metals using ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry). This method is effective when you need to detect low levels of trace metals in groundwater or drinking water, and when you need to confirm the presence of certain metals in a water or soil matrix.
Rush TAT Services
Torrent Lab has built a strong reputation on providing Six Sigma level, highly predictable on time quick turnaround times for testing and analysis. Torrent offers many turnaround time (TAT) options. Our standard TAT is 5 business days.
